New English language test rules apply to tests taken on or after 7 August 2025. If you’re preparing a skilled, student or family visa application, make sure your test meets the current rules.
Tests must be taken at a test centre
Tests delivered entirely online or at home aren’t accepted. Approved tests include IELTS Academic and General Training, PTE Academic, TOEFL iBT, Cambridge C1 Advanced, CELPIP General, LANGUAGECERT Academic, the Michigan English Test and OET.
Older test results
Results from tests taken on or before 6 August 2025 can still be used, depending on the visa, until 6 August 2028.
